Second project meeting at Tosunlar Ortaokulu Denizli - Turkey

In the week 24th February - 1st of March 2014 took place the second project meeting of the project "Science Experiments on Renewable EnergieS" at Tosunlar Ortaokulu Denizli - Turkey. At this meeting had participated groups of teachers and pupils from all the partner schools: France (2 teachers - 6 pupils), Romania (4 teachers - 4 pupils), Lithuania (3 teachers - 4 pupils),  Italy (3 teachers - 5 pupils), Netherlands (2 teachers - 6 pupils) and of course the hosting Turkish teachers and pupils. The programme of the meeting for the four working days was extremely interesting, based on the geothermal energy and according to our project objectives.

In the first morning we had the opportunity to visit Smyrna Greenhouse, a big facility in the neighbourhood of the school, in which geothermal water is used for heating the greenhouse. The products of this greenhouse are tasty tomatoes during the wintertime.

Then we visit one of the Zorlu Geothermal Energy Facility. Here we watch an interesting movie of how the geothermal energy facility works. After this explainings we leave for visiting a big geothermal powerplant.

The afternoon was dedicated to funny experiments on energy themes. Every team presents their experiments, both live and the movie. Finally, every pupil had to complete a questionnaire for evaluation of the activities.

The second day started with a short but very pleasant visit to Saraykoy Anatolian Highschool, wellknown for the various Comenius Projects that school developed. Here the teachers were invited to visit the school and meet the school teachers, while the pupils met the school pupils and learned a traditional turkish dance. The physics teacher presented us the common renewable energies used in Turkey.

The afternoon of the second day was dedicated to visiting geothermal spring of Karayahit, the Pamukkale and Hierapolis.

The third day programme included the Efes visit, the Artemis Temple and the House of the Virgin Mary.

The last day we visited the Pamukkale University, where we watch a presentation of an interesting project called CEH (Clean Energy House). After the presentation we visited the prototype of this house which uses only renewable energies.

In the evening we had a nice traditional turkish dinner, pupils and teachers together. We will remain with beautiful memories about the Denizli and our turkish hosts. Thank you again!
